What is the Pearcy Solar Oven?

Wood and aluminum construction puts the oven at under 20 lbs, making it easy to transport. Wood comes unpainted. Easily removable reflectors also allow for easy storage via thumbscrews with wing nuts. It also has 3 easily adjustable legs, which keeps the unit elevated from the ground by up to 5 inches. This also allows for the unit to be adjusted to different angles towards the sun during different seasons and times of the day. Ceramic tiles for the interior of the oven help with heat retention during opening of the oven or for when the sun goes behind the clouds for a while. Access to the oven is gained through a completely removable dual paned glass unit with an attached knob. The entire wooden unit measures 13" high, 13" long, and 16" wide. The reflectors will add another 18" to the wooden unit when attached, and are 22" wide at the top. Actual cooking space is a wedge-shaped area, which is 8" high, 8" long, and 11" wide. This gives you a total cooking space of 352 cubic inches (.20 cubic feet).

When and where can I use it?

Temperatures comparable to a microwave, of 200-250 degrees can actually be reached without the reflectors attached. With the reflectors attached, the maximum temperature of 360-400 degrees depends on the weather, strength of the sun during the season, your latitude, the time of the day, and also whether the oven is indoors or outdoors. During winter months, when the sun is lower in the sky, it works quite well indoors! But its best performance will be achieved during summer months outdoors. Also keep in mind that if you just leave the oven set up in a window, it will already be hot any time you want to use it, thus eliminating the normal wait time for heating up a conventional oven. And one of the coolest parts is that because of the unique way heat is generated within this oven, it’s very difficult to actually burn food in it! Unit is meant for both indoor and outdoor use, but should not be left outdoors when not in use to prevent damage from wind or rain.
